They had the time of their lives, and us parents worked together to send them off well. It was truly a celebration. They are two amazing young people. So glad they enjoyed these new memories they’ve made.

Slow down and count your blessings 🙌🏾

Life hasn’t exactly gone how I envisioned; honestly, it hasn’t for many of us. But when you pause and reflect on the journey, you’ll see it’s gone exactly the way it was meant to, and God’s blessings have been woven through it all.

Here are a few glimpses of the moments that reminded me just how blessed and covered I am. God’s love, family, friends, memories, and His goodness; all reminders that His plan is always greater than ours. 🙌🏾

Sewing Plans: The anniversary dress

I never thought I was a vest girl—until I made McCall’s 8478.

Last summer, I sewed my first one in a gorgeous cotton print I found at Jo-Ann during Black History Month. Later, I made a denim version entirely from leftover scraps (a true ‘waste not, want not’ moment). Both vests feel like a nod to the ’90s, and they remind me why I love sewing and creating pieces that are personal, timeless, and full of purpose.

Some of you know I lost my dad last spring. That season was filled with grief, and many of the things I sewed never made it to my feed. But sewing became part of my healing. There’s still more I haven’t shared, but maybe I will soon.

Between the time I sewed the vest and felt the desire to wear and get photos in them, I gained quite a few pounds, but I still wore it with pride and purpose.

This spring and summer, I’m definitely adding more vests back into my wardrobe. How about you? Are vests part of your style?

I’m so sick of it!! Get all of these political posts off of my feed Instagram!!!

Instagram used to feel like a place where I could connect with the creative community and share my love for sewing and other uplifting hobbies. But lately, it feels like that space has been overshadowed by an overwhelming flood of political content. Even when I mark posts as ‘not interested,’ they still find their way into my feed, even within the sewing community.

Don’t get me wrong, staying informed about what’s happening in our country and the world is important. I read articles, watch the news, and stay engaged with current events. But at some point, the constant exposure becomes a bit too overwhelming. I see political messages everywhere; on signs, on screens, and now even in spaces that were once dedicated to creativity and joy.

When I come here, I’m seeking something different. I want to see people sharing their passions; sewing projects, motivational messages, tutorials, fashion, and all the beautiful, lighthearted things that inspire me and bring a smile to my face. Instagram once gave us control over our feeds, allowing us to curate our experience. I miss that.

Let’s reclaim this space. Let’s make it a place where creativity thrives, joy is abundant, and we can take a breath from the weight of the world. There’s room for all kinds of conversations, but I believe there’s also value in holding onto spaces where inspiration and connection are the focus.

In honor of one of my favorite parts of this month, “Valentine’s Day! I am sharing a look back at my favorite V-Day DIY.

I don’t like going out on Valentine’s Day. It’s too crowded in those streets, so I usually opt for a quiet evening at home with the hubby and kids. So of course my V-Day look would be something comfy and cute, and what better than a V-Day inspired loungewear set.

I used @mccallpatterncompany #m7195 view A and the lowerband from view C to sew the top.

For the bottoms, I created my own pattern by tracing a pair of pants I already owned.

Sewing has been a constant in my life since the first time my foot hit that foot pedal, and the needle touched the fabric. First, it stitched me back together when I needed healing. Then it stepped in to clothe my babies when we were stretching pennies like elastic. Next, she turned into a side hustle, helping me earn extra coins to support my family. And now? Bringing in the New Year with a little sparkle ✨

I did a fun photo shoot a few months ago with @yazybociophoto and this is one of the outfits I chose.
I sewed this skirt years ago using McCalls Pattern M7845 pattern and a sequin knit fabric from Mood Fabrics. I found this really gorgeous denim jacket on Amazon, with this beautiful sleeve detail, and thought it would pair well with this skirt. I’m looking forward to a 2025 of fun sewing projects that make me feel beautiful and smile when I wear them. More looks from the shoot and blog posts to come soon!

Today’s Christmas service at Victory Church was amazing! It was a beautiful reminder that Jesus is the reason for it all. Because of Him, we live and have the chance to be saved if we choose Him.

How to add length to an already existing top.

I was not happy with how short my memade tank top was, but I had already cut the fabric, so it was too late to lengthen the cut fabric piece. I turned on my @babylocksewing machine and came up with an idea on how to add length without taking from the style of the top.

A little memade on repeat

I modified New Look Pattern #NL6524 which is a dress pattern, and modified it into a top. I haven’t worn this top in years because it no longer fit, so imagine my excitement when I put it on today for church and it fit!! Woohoo!! 🥳

Truly one of the most meaningful projects I’ve ever sewn 🪡🧵

I took two of my dad’s favorite shirts and refashioned them into one for my brother. On Thanksgiving, I saw him wear it for the first time, and the moment he walked downstairs, I couldn’t hold back the tears. Seeing him in that shirt, it felt like a piece of Dad was right there with us. He looks so much like him.

So grateful for a Thanksgiving that was full of good eats, lots of laughter, and so much love. I hope you all had a wonderful day of thanks with those you love and memories that filled you with gratitude.
